At Northside Primary School, we aim to enhance and develop children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
We have created an inclusive, happy, stimulating learning environment, which allows equal opportunities for all. We recognise the importance of our pupils having the opportunity to discover and gain an insight into religions within the world that we live. We aim equip our pupils with the skills necessary to make reasoned and informed judgements about religious and moral issues.  We provide opportunities for our children to reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences. We understand the importance of teaching ethnic, religious and cultural diversity.  Therefore, teaching a wide range of religious and cultural beliefs promotes understanding and tolerance which will ensure our pupils are fully prepared for life outside of their local environment.

PLANNING
Our lessons are planned using Discovery RE which is in line with the National Curriculum.  We have personalied the curriculum to the needs of our small school and ensure that the two year cycle builds on knowledge and skills.
The enquiry based modules covering Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaismand Sikhism support the teacher to deliver engaging and challenging RE lessons with confidence.
Christianity is taught in every year group, with Christmas and Easter given fresh treatment each year, developing children’s learning in a progressive way.
Our curriculum is structured to provide knowledge and skills development, with application of these to the chikdren’s lives within and beyond school.

What does it look like?
In EYFS, RE is delivered through daily continuous provision and adult led activities.

In KS1 and 2, RE is delivered weekly.  The lessons comprise of a variety of teaching materials: videos, discussions and debates.  Interactive knowledge organisers support children knowing and remembering more and are revisited at the beginning of the lesson.
